Sturbridge, MA at a Glance
Settled in 1729 and officially incorporated in 1738, Sturbridge's rich history
and New England charm is evidenced throughout the city. Sturbridge is located
in Worcester County in south-central Massachusetts,
an area characterized by covered bridges, historic taverns and country inns. Farmers,
craftsmen and several historic buildings—including a meeting house, cider
mill, shoe shop, law office and number of town homes—bring 18th- and 19th-century
town life to Old
Sturbridge Village, a living history museum open from May to mid-October.
During the annual Harvest
Festival in October, the Sturbridge Town Common is filled with craft vendors,
homemade baked goods, harvest displays and family-oriented activities. Another
popular event is Concerts
on the Common, a series of free performances in July and August that offers
visitors the chance to hear folk, country, blues and many other styles of music.
